Gulf Coast Triathlon
One of the Florida Panhandle's biggest endurance events, the Gulf Coast Triathlon takes place each May along the white-sand shores of Panama City Beach. Athletes swim in the Gulf, bike along the coast road, and finish with a run on the beach. Spectators line the course for free, and the finish-line atmosphere is worth showing up for even if you're not racing.
The race starts at dawn on the beach, roughly 5 minutes from the property. Road closures along Front Beach Road begin early, so check the event map before driving anywhere that morning.

The swim start and finish line are the best spots to watch. Grab a coffee from one of the beachside cafes and stake out a spot near the finish arch by 7am for the best view. The post-race expo and awards ceremony run through midday.
